How are food inspections scheduled, and how are coverage areas assigned to food inspectors?

Springfield and Greene County food establishment coverage areas are assigned based on staff seniority and driving distance. For example, an inspector might be assigned the southwest corner of town if they live in that area. Another staff member might be assigned a coverage area near their office. This is to maximize time spent in the field versus drive time and maintain efficiency with mileage reimbursement.

Individual inspections are scheduled by the inspector responsible for that respective establishment, utilizing a database that lists the business address, required frequency of inspections, date of last inspection, and other factors. At times staff work outside of their coverage area and assist co-workers to ensure all food establishments are inspected in a timely fashion.
